#181: Best Dry Eye Relief Tips of 2022

Jan 08, 2023

At the end of each year, I like to review the blog and find the best tips from the whole year and put them together in one place. This year, choosing just 3 was particularly hard. There were so many great things to talk about this year. So, I may end up doing more than Best of episode.

In this blog, I want to focus on the best dry eye relief tips we talked about this year. There were 3 that stood out to me:

These 3 stand out as giving some great Dry Eye relief tips that can be used all year long. Let's Review:

#1) Can you Get Dry Eye Relief without Using Eye Drops (Blog #171)

Even if you hate putting drops in your eyes, or even touching your eyes in general, there are lots of ways that you can treat your dry eye.  Try these alternatives to the 4-simple steps to treat your dry eyes daily.

Hydrate: Ask your doctor for a prescription for Tyrvaya nasal spray.  This medication stimulates your eyes to make more tears.  Also, your eye doctor can place punctal plugs in the tear drains of your eye lids in the office.  These plugs block the tears from leaving your eyes.

Harmonize: In this step, I recommend using a lid and lash cleansing spray.  It is easy to apply and doesn't involve touching the eyes.  Use a hypochlorous acid spray and spritz your closed eyelids.  Then, just allow the spray to air dry. My favorite is Easy on the Eyes by twenty/twenty Beauty. And, you can get a 25% discount on any products in the twenty/twenty beauty website using the code: PAM25

Heat: Ask your doctor about the in-office treatments they have available to treat your meibomian glands.  Receiving an in-office meibomian gland treatment can keep your meibomian glands working at full capacity for 12 - 18 months on average.

Heal: Taking a nutritional supplement to support health tear production is an easy way to help your eyes feel more comfortable.  There is even a liquid form available from PRN, if you hate swallowing pills.

#2) Is Lash Lengthening Mascara safe for Dry Eyes? (Blog #156)

Lash lengthening Mascara contains ingredients which can irritate dry eyes.  Some lash lengthening mascara contains prostaglandins which keep the lashes in the growth phase longer to promote longer lashes.  However, the side effects of prostaglandin containing mascara are redness and inflammation in and around the eyes.  Over the long term, permanent damage can be done to the oil glands of the eyes as well as the skin of the eye lids.

Some lash lengthening mascaras contain waxes or fibers to cling to the lashes and promote longer length.  These can flake off into the eyes during the day or clog up the oil glands of the eyelids.

The best way to get longer looking lashes is to nourish your eyelids and lashes using the Get Growing Lash and Brow serum.  This serum contains a blend of argon, coconut, and castor oils to encourage the health of the lash follicles and allow them to grow longer without breaking off.

Keeping your eye makeup CLEAN is the best way to wear makeup when your eyes are dry.  Find out how to make the switch to clean makeup by taking my CLEAN Makeup Manual Course.  You'll be so glad you did when you are rocking the latest makeup trend at your next big event.

#3) How to get Whiter Eyes (Blog #152)

There are three tips to make your dry eyes white. Remember, dry eyes are fueled by inflammation.  Reducing the sources of inflammation from in and around your eyes is key in the healing process.

Reduce the inflammation in your body by drinking plenty of water, getting adequate rest, eating  anti-inflammatory foods, and reducing your consumption of pro-inflammatory foods.

Next, reduce the inflammation in your eyes. Use the 4-simple steps for healthy eyes on a daily basis.  You can hydrate your eyes with preservative-free artificial tears. If you don't already have a favorite artificial tear, check out the Guide to Artificial Tears here.

Remove the sources of inflammation from around the eyes by cleansing them with an anti-septic lid and lash cleanser. Heat the eyes using warm compress to release oils from the eyelids.  These oils cushion your tears and give your eyes a barrier from your environment.  And, provide your body with the essential nutrients to make healthy tears by taking a dry eye nutritional supplement.

Finally, you can use an eye whitener. Lumify will get your eyes looking white fast without worry about rebound redness. The best part is that if you continue to reduce the inflammation in your body and reduce the inflammation in your eyes, your eyes will become less and less red over time.

CONCLUSION:

WOW! It certainly looks like anything was possible in 2022. No matter what your biggest complaint is about your dry eyes, there is a solution to solve it.

Hate using eye drops: get dropless dry eye care. You can use a combination of an in office treatment to unclog your meibomian glands plus a new Prescription nasal spray to get complete dry eye relief.

Want your lashes to look longer and more full? Skip the lash lengthening mascara at the store. These products contain ingredients that can make your dry eyes worse, like chemicals that increase inflammation and particles that can float around in your tears. Use Get Growing Lash and Brow Serum instead. It contains clean ingredients that nourish and strengthen your lash follicles.

Are your eye so red that you are embarrassed by them in social situations. Many of my patients tell me this. The root cause of Dry Eye Disease is inflammation. So, it makes sense that your eyes would look red and water. Get whiter eyes by treating the root cause of the disease. Decrease the inflammation in your body and your eyes.
