Do you want Spooky Eyes?

Oct 30, 2019

Halloween is such a fun time of year.  I love dressing up in costumes and having fun with friends.  Fun is great, but eye infections are bad.  Make sure your eyes are not the spookiest part of your Halloween costume.  Follow these 3 tips:

No. 1)  Contact lenses are not costumes

Creating a fun or ghoulish costume and enhancing your look with contact lenses can be a great addition to a fabulous costume.  Contact lenses are to be purchased through prescription only. They are not to be bought as part of a Halloween costume from a store, online, or worse, at a flea market.

Costume contact lenses are like any other contact lenses in that they must be fit to your eyes by a doctor.  Then the doctor writes you a prescription for a specific type of lens and power.  That prescription is now yours.  Please do not share your contact lenses with a friend to make their costumes look cool. This will surely result in infection. And, that is super spooky.

No. 2) Halloween is not real life

Halloween is a holiday.  And, it is meant to be fun. Therefore, for these special occasions, I relax my rules a bit about toxins in makeup.  If you haven't downloaded the list of toxins to avoid in your makeup and personal care products, do it here.

Makeup may be a big part of your costume. And, the toxins in this type of costume make up will irritate your eyes for sure.  Just remember, to carefully remove all of the makeup before going to bed. Make sure you’ve gotten it all off from around your eyes.
One-Step Makeup Remover Wipes
When my kids have their faces painted for Halloween or at a fair, I always use the One-Step Makeup Remover Wipes from Beautycounter to remove all of that paint from their faces.  The large clothe gives enough material to cover their faces and a bit of texture to scrub at their faces.  I know this particular product is good for their skin as well.

No. 3)  Don’t be a fool, stay cool

Remember that we must care for our eyes and our bodies every day. Wearing any kind of contact lenses with lots of eye makeup can lead to infection.  Be careful with the makeup you use as well.  Since it is costume makeup it may be from last Halloween.  Check the expiration date on it, or just get a new one.  And, don't share makeup with friends.

Make sure that you stay hydrated and throughout the day.  You may notice the day after Halloween that you need some extra hydration to recover from all of the fun. Your eyes may also need extra lubrication the following day. Make sure you have some preservative-free artificial tears handy to utilize.

Conclusion

So there you have it three quick tips to keep you in your eyes happy and healthy this Halloween. Halloween certainly is one of my favorite holidays I hope you’ll have a lot of fun this week too.

Just keep these tips in mind.  See your eye doctor for a prescription to purchase costume contact lenses, remove your contact lenses and all of that crazy makeup at the end of the night, make sure your costume makeup isn't expired, and stay hydrated both with your eyes and your body.
